Bollywood superstar Prabhas’s latest film, Adipurush, has been met with scathing reviews from critics, who have called it the worst movie of the year.
The film, which is a modern-day adaptation of the Hindu epic Ramayana, stars Prabhas as Ram, Kriti Sanon as Sita, and Saif Ali Khan as Ravana. It was directed by Om Raut and released in theaters on June 16.
Reviews for Adipurush have been overwhelmingly negative. Many critics have criticized the film’s poor special effects, weak story, and wooden acting.
Vishwajit Patil, a film critic for Mid-Day, gave Adipurush a one-star rating, calling it a ‘colossal letdown’. He wrote, ‘The visual effects are subpar, and the content falls flat in the first half. This film had the potential to be a game-changer, but unfortunately, it missed the mark. It is all style and no substance. Prabhas gives his weakest performance yet’.
Rajeev Masand, a film critic for NDTV, also gave Adipurush a one-star rating, calling it ‘a boring, bloated mess’. He wrote, ‘Adipurush is a film that is so long, so tedious, and so dull that it feels like it will never end. The story is poorly told, the characters are underdeveloped, and the action scenes are uninspired’.
Despite the negative reviews, Adipurush has been a box office success. The film has grossed over ₹100 crore (US$12.5 million) in its opening weekend, making it the highest-grossing Hindi film of the year.
However, it remains to be seen whether Adipurush will have any staying power. With its poor reviews and lack of critical acclaim, it is possible that the film will quickly fade from memory.
