Odisha Television Network (OTV) has launched India’s first AI news anchor, Lisa. The virtual news presenter was introduced at a ceremony in Bhubaneswar on Sunday, July 9, 2023.

Lisa is a lifelike avatar created using artificial intelligence (AI). She is capable of delivering news in both English and Odia, the official language of Odisha. Lisa is also able to interact with viewers in real time, answering their questions and providing additional information.

OTV’s Managing Director, Jagi Mangat Panda, said that Lisa is a “major milestone” for the company and for the state of Odisha. He said that Lisa will help to “revolutionize TV broadcasting and journalism” in India.

“Lisa is the first AI news anchor in the free-to-air regional television broadcasting arena,” Panda said. “She is also the first Odia news anchor. This is a major achievement for OTV and for the state of Odisha.”

Panda said that Lisa was created using a combination of AI and machine learning technologies. She was trained on a massive dataset of news articles, videos, and social media posts. This allows Lisa to generate news content that is both accurate and relevant.

Lisa is also able to interact with viewers in real time. She can answer their questions, provide additional information, and even engage in casual conversation. This makes her a more engaging and informative news source than traditional TV news anchors.

OTV plans to use Lisa to deliver news updates throughout the day. She will also appear on special programming, such as political debates and live events. Panda said that Lisa has the potential to “transform the way people consume news in India.”

“Lisa is a powerful tool that can be used to inform and educate the public,” Panda said. “She can also be used to promote social change and understanding. We are excited to see how Lisa will be used to shape the future of news in India.”

Lisa’s launch has been met with mixed reactions. Some people have praised her as a revolutionary new technology that has the potential to change the way people consume news. Others have expressed concerns about the impact of AI on the news industry and the potential for bias in AI-generated content.

Only time will tell how Lisa will be used and how she will impact the news industry. However, there is no doubt that she is a significant development in the field of AI and that she has the potential to revolutionize the way people consume news.

In addition to Lisa, there are a number of other AI news anchors that have been developed in recent years. These include Fedha, an AI news anchor from Kuwait, and Ren Xiaorong, an AI news anchor from China. These AI news anchors are still in their early stages of development, but they have the potential to change the way news is delivered in the future.
