Refunds Of Rs 1.14 Lakh Crore Issued Till 31 August, Check Status

The Income Tax Department has issued refunds of Rs 1.14 lakh crore to 1.97 crore taxpayers between April 1, 2022, and August 31, 2022. It has been said by CBDT (Central Board of Direct Taxes) that Rs 61 thousand 252 crore has been released to 1.96 crore taxpayers as personal income tax refund during the said period. In addition, Rs 53,158 crore has been released to taxpayers as corporate tax refund in 1,46,871 cases.

Here’s how to check your refund status

1. Log in to the Income Tax Portal using User ID Password.

2. Go to My Account and click on ‘Refund/Demand Status.

3. All the information will come in front of you. If the refund is not made, you can check the status immediately by going to ‘Reason’.

If you did not get the return, then this could be the reason

Technical flaw: Any technical issue related to the Income Tax Department portal or your account may be the reason for the delay of your Income Tax refund. In such a situation, if you have not received the refund amount till now, then you can get detailed information by contacting the helpline of the Income Tax Department. The Income Tax Department’s helpline number (income tax contact centre, ASK’s number) is 18001801961.

Lack of documents: Lack of additional documents can also be a major reason for delay in getting refund. To resolve this issue, you can talk to the tax officer and resubmit the required documents.

Non-verification: Verification is also one of the reasons for not getting refund. If your ITR is not verified within the stipulated time frame, it will be treated as invalid. Under the Income Tax Act, 1961, ITRs that are not verified become invalid.

Bank Information: Even if there is any change in the bank details, there may be a delay in getting your refund. The account will be valid only if the information like mobile number and e-mail of your primary account continues to be received from the new account. An alert will appear on the portal if the information has been changed.
