In the wake of heavy rainfall in Delhi, Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinay Kumar Saxena on Sunday and took stock of the situation. Shah also assured all possible help to the Delhi government in carrying out relief and rescue operations.
According to a statement issued by the Home Ministry, Shah spoke to Saxena over the phone and enquired about the impact of the rain on the city. He also asked about the steps taken by the Delhi government to ensure the safety of the people.
Shah directed the Delhi government to take all necessary measures to prevent any loss of life or property due to the rain. He also asked the government to provide relief to the affected people.
Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted on Sunday that all schools in the city will remain closed on Monday due to the rain. He also asked parents to keep their children at home.
“Due to heavy rain, all schools in Delhi will remain closed tomorrow,” Kejriwal tweeted. “Please keep your children at home.”
The Delhi government has also issued an advisory asking people to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. The advisory also said that people should be careful while driving and avoid wading through flooded areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rain in Delhi in the next few days. The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for the city, warning of moderate to heavy rain.
The heavy rain has caused waterlogging in several parts of Delhi. The Delhi Traffic Police has advised commuters to plan their travel accordingly and avoid unnecessary detours.
The rain has also caused damage to some infrastructure in the city. A boundary wall of a Delhi government school collapsed in East of Kailash due to the rain. No one was injured in the incident.
The Delhi government is working to clear the waterlogging and restore normalcy in the city. The government has deployed teams of the Delhi Fire Service, the Public Works Department, and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to carry out relief and rescue operations.
The heavy rain has also affected the flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). Several flights have been delayed or cancelled due to the rain.

The IGIA has asked passengers to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport. The airport has also advised passengers to carry umbrellas and raincoats.
The heavy rain is expected to continue in Delhi for the next few days. The Delhi government has asked people to stay safe and cooperate with the authorities.
